Job Description

At DMU you will make a meaningful contribution to the dynamic future of Medicine and Health Sciences. DMU is seeking a faculty member in the Department of Osteopathic Clinical Medicine (OCM), section of Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM), who will participate in clinical patient care, teaching, and service activities. We are seeking a physician who is passionate aboout teaching full-spectrum osteopathic medicine, inclduding application of OP&P in all clinical encounters.

What you'll do:

  • This position is for 75% clinical (direct patient care), 15% academic (lectures and labs), and 10% service (committees, advising, admissions applicant reviews). These allocations may be adjusted for the right applicant. Patient care primarily but not limited to OMM.
  • Serving as a preceptor for third and fourth year Des Moines University students.
  • Completing evaluations of students' clinical skill and knowledge.
  • Serving as a preceptor for OMM Undergraduate Fellows.
  • Teaching/supervising didactics, lectures & labs at the direction of the department chair.
  • Performing student service activities such as;
  • Serving as a student advisor (advising students on academic requirements and postgraduate education).
  • Acting as an advisor to student organizations.
  • Assisting with review and grading of third and fourth year students enrolled in courses housed in the Osteopathic Clinical Medicine Department.

What we're looking for:

  • Have earned a Doctor of Osteopathy or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an AOA-accredited college of osteopathic medicine.
  • Board-eligible/certified by the American Osteopathic Board of (specialty) or board-eligible/certified by the American Board of (specialty).
  • If board-eligible, must obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • Must possess significant experience in osteopathic manual medicine (e.g. completion of an undergraduate OMM fellowship, experience teaching
  • Hold board eligible status or board certification in OMM/NMM or be board eligible or board certification in another specialty field and possess significant experience in OMM (e.g. completion of an undergraduate OMM fellowship, three years teaching at least ten hours per week in another OMM department).
  • Be a member in good standing in all appropriate professional and governmental organizations.
  • Possess license to practice in the State of Iowa, or be eligible to gain license to practice in the State of Iowa.
  • Have valid state and federal narcotics license or be eligible to gain these licenses.
  • Meet the eligibility requirements for malpractice coverage by the University malpractice insurance carrier.
